Summer’s up with issue 87 of Simply Crochet! The sun has well and truly got his hat on now, and as a result this issue’s stuffed to the seams with sun-kissed crochet makes. Get ready for al fresco dining by making our beautiful motif blanket, update your summer look with our fringed accessories, and go ‘au naturel’ with our Bias shawl (made using an exclusive hand-dyed yarn pack made especially for us by plant-based indie dyer Skein Heroine!)

Plus with the print edition of Simply Crochet you also get our amazing foam blocking board which is perfect for getting your motifs looking nice and precise (it works with multiple shapes too!). We’ve made a handy video to show you how to use your blocking board which you can find here. You also get an extra Crochet Home booklet (that is included with both the print and digital editions, brought to you in association with Yarn and Colors). It includes our step-by-step guide on how to use your blocking board, as well as beautiful picnic blanket pattern by Vicky Gorry… which just so happens to use a range of motifs that you can use your blocking board with!

Spoil yourself with a sweet bag in peppermint pastels, dare to hook delightful dreamcatchers, and adore making a hexie puff quilt full of smiling teddys for little ones.

And if you’ve never heard of an axolotl, let us introduce you to cutest amphibian ever (our crochet one might even be cuter than the real thing!)

Issue 79

We’re all about the animal print in issue 79, drawing on nature’s inspiration for cushions, throws, a sweet cardi and a show-stopping tiger-skin rug – designed by the one and only Vanessa Mooncie. Animal print is totally on-trend right now, and the best part is – as it’s crochet, it’s cruelty free!

Plus there’s loads of other fab projects to hook up as we enter the new year, like our stylish shawl, adorable baby booties, gorgeous clutch bag and super-cute amigurumi mouse!

This issue also comes with a 28-page mini-mag: we’ve worked with Scheepjes and our brilliant designers to use warm and cool colour palettes to make four gorgeous blankets. There are patterns for beginners and experts, and what’s more, with the print edition you also get our swatch card and pen, so you can get creative and plan your own blanket colour scheme!

Issue 78

There’s a whole year of crochet up ahead, and we couldn’t be more excited. The 2019 calendar includes patterns for four stunning, seasonal wreaths. If you’re feeling speedy, your winter festive masterpiece could even be ready for this Christmas! Of course, there’s plenty more to enjoy – a cute reindeer doll, gorgeous jumper, sweet slippers and a fab poncho.

We’re also keeping those winter blues at bay with our rainbow collection. Snuggle into blankets, cushions, mitts and more with our super-colourful patterns (they’re great for beginners, too).

Be the star of your office party with our collection of photo booth props, party accessories and jumpers. Katie Jones’ neon yoked jumper is just the thing for the chilly weather. And if you can’t bear digging around for last year’s Christmas decorations, check out our Hook to Hook challenge for classic decorating ideas.

We’re also celebrating 40 years of The Snowman by Raymond Briggs. Our superstar designer Ilaria Caliri has created an exclusive amigurumi pattern of this iconic and loveable character. Plus we’ve got bags, blankets, bunting and much more!

Also comes with our little elf kit (which includes all the yarn you need and safety eyes).

That’s all the ingredients for a very happy, hooky Christmas!

Issue 76

The bikinis and flip-flops might be going back into storage, but it can’t be all bad – we’re heading into seasonal territory, where crocheted pumpkins, spiders and Christmas puds are the norm! We’re helping you to get your Christmas crochet under control with this issue. Start by fluffing up our rather dashing reindeer and his unique polar bear friend  – they’ll make perfect gifts for the little ones! Plus we go all Nordic with our main collection. Make a snug jumper and stunning accessories for friends who deserve spoiling – there’s a scarf and a half everyone will love.

The print edition of issue 76 also comes with our little monster kit (which includes all the yarn you need and safety eyes) AND a 2.5mm amigurumi crochet hook! Please note – Overseas subscribers will receive a different gift with issue 76.

Issue 74

Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside. This issue we have a lot of love for sun, sea and sand, as well as cool tops and a handy light shawl, not to mention banana earrings (oh, we just did). The summer heat has also got us all spaced out. Our collection this month is dedicated to stars, galaxies and our very own solar system – take your pick of a rug, blanket, bookmark and more, all hooked up in gorgeous purple shades. Ultraviolet is the Pantone colour of the year so we’re making the most of it. And after all of that you can put your feet up and read about our designers’ breakthrough moments – we’re hoping to pick up some tips. (And don’t forget about Darcy, our delightful little dachshund key ring!)

Issue73

We’re feeling the summer vibes in issue 73! The sunlight and fresh air are certainly good for the soul and we have plenty of summery patterns for you this issue – our main collection takes you out for a picnic, complete with rug and parasol. Just add jam sandwiches and lemonade! We hope you enjoy our beautiful shawl booklet, too – and don’t forget to browse through our UK Yarn Shop Guide, especially if you’re staycationing in the UK this summer. And if you are going down to the beach today, our adorable Johnny Bear is certainly ready to come with, toting his bag and his little fishy friend. There’s also the most beautiful lacy tops, cardigans and shawls – everything to get your summer wardrobe looking hot–hot–hot! So much to inspire your crochet – enjoy!

Issue72

We’ve headed east for our collection inspiration for issue 72. Choose from easy, quick lotus blossoms and bunting or take on a challenge with Emma Leith’s fabulous curtain. On a smaller scale, we’re very excited to include an exclusive pattern for an Irish Terrier from TOFT – oh yes, we are spoiling you! We get some inside advice from top crochet designers on what it takes to go pro, plus we chat to the amazing crochet artist Katika. Take a dip with our beautiful mermaid, designed by Ilaria Caliri, and prepare for summer with the freshest makes in pristine whites and blues with our stunning shawl and lacy top. Plus, there’s some hot, hot, hot colour trends you’ll love for your home.

Issue71

Wimbledon is just around the corner, and we’re feeling the sporty vibe this month. Check out Simone Francis’ stylish sporty tee – it’s an easy top to make and a grand first garment to have a go at. If raising a glass of Pimms at the same time as juggling your strawberries and cream is more your workout style, however, we have plenty of other makes to get you in the mood for summer. Eleonora’s Tunisian trims are über-cool, and Heather Gibbs’ diamond blanket is perfect for summer picnics.

Mind you, if all this sport and sunshine is a bit much, there’s nothing quite like sitting down with a cup of tea with your magazine and a bit of crochet. And every good cup of tea needs a good biscuit too, just like our adorable Jammy Dodger tape measure – it comes as a free kit with the print edition (the pattern is included in the digital edition too) – just be careful not to dunk it!

Issue70

Love is in the air this month as, with Harry and Meghan’s big day on 19 May, we have the perfect excuse to get unashamedly romantic. Emma Leith’s royal cushion is a splendid way to mark the occasion. And if you’re planning a wedding or other special occasion, take inspiration from our cool blue ideas which include place cards, favour bags, cake toppers and more. We’re also getting ready for warmer weather with plenty of cool knits this issue. We love Fran Morgan’s stripy chevron cardi and Matthew Spiers’ colourful hat; we might even make them essential Simply Crochet attire – total squad goals!

Issue 68

In issue 68 we’re fully embracing our love of ruffles – they’re everywhere this year and we’ve given them a chic makeover with stylish crochet garments and accessories. If amigurumi is more your thing (or you’re looking for a project to delight a small person), get your hooks into the monstrous, glorious Mr Blue. We’ve also got a selection of projects perfect for Easter, like our cute little egg cosies, spring-time wreaths and an adorable bunny blanket!

We’re also really excited about the start of our very first Hook ’n’ Learn crochet along – the end result being this show-stopper of a blanket. Lucy Croft will take you through 12 beautiful stitches this year, with each issue dedicated to a different stitch. Get hooking your first square in issue 68, and if you’re new to CAL’s we’ve also got an article where you can find out more about them and how they help us design, focus… and socialise!
