Why use possum yarn?

Possums were introduced into New Zealand (from Tasmania) by fur traders in the late 19th century, the non-native brushtail possum population has reached staggering proportions largely due to the lack of natural predators that would otherwise maintain an ecological balance. The consequences of their rapidly increasing numbers are many, including damaging impacts on New Zealand’s native flora and fauna. The Brushtail Possum is New Zealand’s biggest ecological threat. A New Zealand knitting company Snowy Peak Ltd,  pioneered the use of Brushtail Possum fibre blended with wool in 1992 and following deep research, launched Merinomink™ on the market in 1996.  We are lucky to stock the Merinomink  and Untouched World brands, which are part of the Snowy Peak Ltd family.  For the hand...

Entering the Royal Hobart Show

Have you ever visited your local show and viewed the knitted, felted, crocheted, hand spun and hand dyed items and thought I can do that or I would like to enter.  Well you too can enter. It is not a secret society or elves in the cupboard producing these items.  It is ordinary men and women who have put some time aside to showcase and improve their crafting. I have previously bitten the bullet and entered, my heart was in my mouth when I put my entry in, but I won a prize and received a highly commended. Knit Nite

Knitters who came to our March Knit Night 2017 asked for it to be a regular occurrence.  Well here it is. Join us on the first Wednesday of the month at 6.00pm at the Brick Factory in Salamanca Square.   Bring along your knitting, crochet or needle felting and a friend and spend some stress free time with like minded people.
